In 2019 Blackpool Borough Council began Project Amber – an ambitious project to involve multiple contractors with specific surfacing product skills to bring their road network up to a modern standard.
Miles Macadam was chosen to carry out works overlaying concrete carriageways and to begin a concerted programme of upgrading bus laybys in the city centre. Blackpool has a very efficient and busy Bus Infrastructure system, which in turn, takes a heavy toll on the road network. Current asphaltic materials are prone to rutting, causing health and safety issues for road users and pedestrians alike.
Miles Macadam’s Hardipave™ is a hybrid between asphalt and concrete, providing a rigid, fuel resistant surface course that can be quickly installed and opened to traffic with minimum down time and disruption. By specifying Hardipave™ as the surface course, Blackpool Borough Council can be assured of the durability and long term performance of the bus layby.
