This week marks the completion of the first project within our Carbon Neutral Surfacing Scheme. Working with Shropshire’s engineering consultants, WSP, and delivery partner, Kier, Miles Macadam completed 1026m2 of patching along the A41 in Shropshire using our specialised product, Milepave™. Despite unavoidable weather delays, the works were completed to the highest standard and set to restricted days (09:30-16:00) to ensure as little disruption to the public and local businesses as possible.

The programme consisted of planing 50mm of the 37 targeted areas and then installing 50mm of our HAPAS certified Grouted Macadam, Milepave™. This product is a high strength, flexible material that is ideal for use on concrete carriageways. The use of Milepave™ on a resurfacing scheme can have a carbon saving of more than 40%, a massive reduction for surfacing works.

This project is the first of many in the coming future as part of the UK’s first Carbon Neutral Surfacing Scheme. It is a memorable week for Miles Macadam, and it is great to see the works fully underway after careful planning over the last year.

This is the first step in sustainable road improvement and a great achievement for all involved.
